At first, players can choose either to read or jump into playing with the 6 puzzles, which require matching the shapes of ice pieces to reveal a scene from the story. There are verbal instructions and a demonstration, but preschoolers might need help. Kids can also free draw with artistic ice and save their crystal creations to their photos or see their picture displayed as the backdrop of a snow globe where Elsa and Anna dance together. These games are interspersed throughout the story as well, as kids page their way through the digital book. The text highlights as the narrator reads, and a rotating symbol appears on most pages to remind kids to flip the device over for Anna's perspective. When they "turn" the page, they're back to Elsa's point of view. As in real life, this story is most complete when you listen to both sides. The ability to switch between viewpoints is what makes this app so interesting and exciting!
Kids can learn lessons about expressing feelings from this tale with strong female characters that celebrates sisterly love and ultimately counters typical fairytale myths about love at first sight. Don't forget to use this opportunity to talk to your kids about the story to draw out these lessons.
By adding extra puzzles and games, Frozen: Storybook Deluxe engages Frozen fans who aren't as interested in reading. Every few pages, the app give reluctant readers a break to do something other than read. The highlighted text during narration is good for reinforcing reading, and you and your child can also practice reading and recording yourselves together!
As if this app couldn't get any better, a new update was released that added a second shorter story to enjoy with your child; Frozen Fever! The new Disney short film that can only be seen as a preview before the newly released Cinderella movie! However, now you can enjoy it as an interactive story on this app! I really love hearing the story from the other view point and kind of wish Frozen Fever gave you that option as well (maybe the next update will allow this...?).
So here are our thoughts about the app:
WE LOVE IT!!!!
So if you or any of your love ones are suffering from Frozen Fever make sure you get them this app to help them pass the time as they wait patiently for the next sequel to hit movie theaters!
